The 5th Grade Chorus has gotten off to a great start with approximately 80 members. Children who wish to belong to both band and chorus, meet Wednesday mornings from 10:15 to 10:40 (they are presently our Alto section). The rest of the chorus meet on Thursday afternoons from 2:00 - 2:45 in the gym. We have begun learning our Holiday Concert music and they are making tremendous progress. The entire fifth grade chorus has been invited to sing at the American Cancer Society "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" on Sunday morning October 6th. Please fill out the permission slip sent home with the children.
Have you observed your children doing the "cup" game?? This game has been around for many, many years however, it was made famous be the movie "Pitch Perfect". It is a challenging rhythmic game that our fifth graders are mastering. I have discouraged them from doing this at home with a cup full of liquid:) We are also learning to read 2-pt music (soprano and alto) and beginning our study on our National Anthem.
Our fourth graders have been learning a Liberian "Welcome Song" titled "Funga Alaphia". We incorporated a percussion ensemble to accompany the piece along with singing and dancing. We are also learning various rhythm patterns using half, quarter, eighth notes and quarter rests. We wrote a "name" composition and performed it in Rondo Form. Soon we will begin our study on the Instruments of the Orchestra.

Welcome to our LSS Third graders. We have had a wonderful start and are learning to become incredible musicians. We are learning the lines and spaces of the Treble Clef in preparation to receiving recorders in January. We have been performing singing games and learning new songs for our March concerts.
